The Process in which a gas/vapor expands in a controlled environment is dimensional as well as directional. In American Kenpo, we continue to parallel our mental picture with this thought and visualize many concepts, theories and principles. The view from a detached state, concerns us with this three part explanation on what a gas is part of.
We may view water as the third part of what matter consists of in our universe, that is solids, liquid and gas. We know that solid water is ice, in a view using the Martial Way as our filter, we can say that solid/ice is a single dimensional state. A single move, mechanical, disconnected from further processes. It is stationary. Lineal. The liquid state of water, finds the least path of resistance in it’s travel and occupancy of a space. Water/fluid can be can be filtered in a Martial Way as the path of least resistance, yielding to obstruction, going around insurmountable objects that have greater mass or greater resistance. More suited to modification. Water rises when confined in a vessel type arena or environment, it will not rise unless confined.
The gaseous/vapor state finds it’s own expanding volume. Of course pressure and density enter into the three states of water. In American Kenpo, our gaseous/vapor state is manifest in three dimensions. The Tactical Area of Response, The Four Rings and the Outer Rim Principle. To understand what gaseous expansion is one must explore what it does not do.
Inertia affects all matter all the time. Inertia is attached to all of the Universe. This constant state of energy production, this process of expansion is intrinsic to the Martial Human in dominating the arena/environment that this Martial Human occupies or invades.
Different theories attract different states of expansion. Such as, Inertial Engagement as defined when the entire mass is launched in a plane of acceleration to penetrate to and through the opponent. This expansion in penetrating the opponents Four Rings is expansive in it’s occupancy. We can say then that Inertial Engagement is dominating and penetrating the dimension of depth. In Rotational Engagement, we again attack a prescribed dimension, width. While expanding to the parameters of the Outer Rim Principle’s boundary, we accomplish the gaseous/vaporous state of volume. The very nature of expansion in the Outer Rim Principle in relationship to Rotational Engagement deals with the dimensions of width, height is controlled in the connected state of outlining the Outer Rims Principle’s boundary.
To fortify this expanding volume domination, one must create a denominator to generate energy. The co-generational denominator in invasive by nature, all encompassing in principle. To invade is to dominate and create tactical decisions based upon aggressive attack, as in a violent release of gas under extreme pressure. This is quite different than a gas simply released “seeking it’s volume.” The eventual outcome of hostile engagement must be defined in the realm of life and or opponent death.
In the American Kenpo’s line of mechanical drills and sets to fortify this invasion of prescribed volume, as we refer to as “The Outer Rim Principle” we attain a level of control that dominates all articulating joints.
Although in definition, the late Grandmaster Ed Parker referred to this volume as the Outer Rim Theory, I have changed this to honor the Senior Grandmaster. This theory is now a principle in our collective teachings in the Universal Kenpo Federation having been operated and tested in real and empirical situations of data collection.
To accomplish this mechanical expanding domination that can lead to a state of Innovative Spontaneity in it’s most articulated actions we refer to the many sets that Grandmaster Parker created. To this I have created additional sets for the Universal Kenpo Federation’s Compendium Of Knowledge as the UKF continues to fulfill the Founder of American Kenpo’s creed, to perpetrate and expand the system that he laid as the cornerstone for the future of our system, American Kenpo.
